Michele Shaw, MA, LPC Associate
Licensed Professional Counselor Associate

Our God has tender-hearted compassion for those who are hurting, grieving, and afflicted (Isaiah 61:1-4). Do you find yourself in one of those places currently? No matter your circumstance, you can know with certainty that God wants you to be free from your pain and suffering. With empathy and a non-judgmental spirit, I will sit with you and listen to your story. Together we will determine the best path forward for your needs. In my practice, clients will also benefit from the influence of my supervisor, Glenna Massey, LPC-S, an EMDR-certified therapist with training in Gottman Couples Therapy and neurobiology.

My Goal as a Christian Counselor
I aim to provide a peaceful, safe place where you can be yourself and share your life’s journey with me. It is also my hope to help you build a strong relationship with the Lord in which you are able to receive the 24/7 care that only He can provide. God is our Comforter, Healer, Restorer, continued Help in time of need, Companion, and Friend. It would be my highest honor to help you truly know and cling to these truths about God for yourself.
What I Offer in Christian Counseling
I offer a calming, peaceful space where you will be warmly welcomed. During our session, we will spend time catching up from the last time we met. Depending on your comfort level and preference, I will pray and ask for the Holy Spirit’s presence, guidance, and wisdom to be made known. Our work will be based on your needs. Usually we will continue working on our treatment plan for the presenting issue. If EMDR is a part of the session, then we will begin processing a target or finishing one that is not complete. If something dramatic happened during the past week, we may have to deal with that issue before we can get back to our goals. I do try to be sensitive to each client’s needs and the Holy Spirit’s guidance during our time together.
My Approach to Christian Counseling
One of the greatest benefits of Christian counseling is the Holy Spirit. We are first spirit beings and having His counsel, wisdom, and insight are invaluable when working with clients. He knows things about each individual that I will never know and thus He is able to minister into those places and bring incredible freedom and restoration sometimes with just a word. He is so amazing!
Another incredible benefit is being able to use the Scriptures. God gave us the Bible as an owner’s manual for our lives. In it we can find everything we need to live this life, including all the promises that are ours in Christ Jesus. We also discover the heart of God and His great passion for us.
Qualifications & Experience
I have a Bachelor’s in Biblical and Theological Studies and a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from The King’s University in Southlake, Texas. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
My Call to Christian Counseling
Since I became a Christian, I have taught Bible studies and Sunday school classes, led women’s ministries, and mentored and discipled women. It was during this time that I became aware of how inadequate I was at ministering to the deep places where women struggled so much. They had hurts and needs for which I was not equipped to help. When the time was right, I went back to school and obtained my degrees to become a licensed counselor.
More About Me/On a Personal Note
My life revolves around my family. My greatest pleasure is being with them. I also enjoy decorating and home improvement projects. I love to read and study, particularly Biblical and psychological materials.

EMDR
EMDR is known not only for its work with PTSD clients but also for its rapid results in helping with other disturbances such as anxiety, depression, phobias, substance abuse, eating disorders, and grief and loss, to name a few. God has already placed within us the ability to handle daily disturbances during our REM sleep. EMDR mimics the process of REM sleep to help the client work through the larger disturbances the brain has difficulty working through. Clients will likely find quicker relief through this therapy than many do from talk therapy.
Spiritual Development
I have spent decades working with women by way of teaching biblical studies and mentoring. Spiritual development remains very important to me. Most of the clients I have seen lack knowledge of the most basic Christian disciplines such as prayer, quiet time with God, how to read or study the Bible, and how to overcome trials in this life. I do incorporate the basics of how to live the Christian life in counseling and have found that clients benefit greatly from it.
Women’s Issues
As a “seasoned” woman, I have lived through many things in this life. Being a wife of thirty-nine years, mother of three, mother-in-law to two, and grandmother to three wonderful grandchildren, I have learned a lot about relationships and how to navigate the many storms of life. Women have unique issues and it helps to work with a woman who has already navigated those waters. Much of the work I have done has been with women of all types and in various stages of their journeys. It is very much a passion of mine to help empower women with the knowledge of who they are in Christ and how to overcome the many obstacles they face.
Anxiety
Philippians 4:6 tells us to not be anxious about anything. Paul would not have told us to not be anxious about anything unless there were things to be anxious about. Life is full of reasons to be anxious, including relationship issues, health concerns, financial burdens, school and work demands, plus so much more. Since we live in a world full of anxiety-provoking circumstances, we need to learn how to work with these challenges. I have learned how to overcome anxiety in my own life and I have many tools to help you with the anxiety you face.
Depression
Over twenty years ago, I suffered from a deep depression, so I understand the hopelessness and helplessness that are associated with it. Depression is such a dark place where all energy is depleted. Some have to suffer through it to do their jobs, tend to their families, and pay the bills despite the challenges that come with depression. Others cannot even get out of bed. If you have depression, know there is hope. I am a living testimony that depression can be overcome and a fulfilling life can be enjoyed. By working together, we can find the origin of the depression and seek methods to help you overcome it as well.
